Ingrown Toenail, Here's what to do

Ingrown Toenail, Here's what to do

Ingrown toenail is the growth of soft skin on the side of the big toe. The result is pain, redness, swelling around the nail and sometimes infection.

This is due to the wrong growth or growth of the nail where the skin of the foot is injured. It can range from wearing tight shoes, cutting nails too short or unevenly, and sometimes because the nail polish is too much for the pedicure.

If ingrown is not treated, the skin of the fingers and even the bones can become infected.

Ingrown toenail can be treated at home. Here's what to do:

1. Soak the feet in lukewarm water mixed with salt. In each basin of water add 1 teaspoon of salt. Soak the foot for 15-20 minutes 3 times a day. Soaking in water reduces inflammation and relieves pain.

2. Place cotton or cloth under the toe. Use a clean cotton swab or dental floss under the ingrown after soaking in salt water. This will help the nail grow over the edge of the skin, and not re-enter the skin. Change the cotton or floss daily until the pain disappears and the redness disappears.

3. Apply antibiotic. Apply antibiotic ointment to the wound. Can be wrapped in a bandage.

4. Choose soft shoes or slippers. Wear temporary open-toed shoes or sandals until your toes heal.

5. Take care of your feet. If you have diabetes, check the feet daily because ingrown and other foot sores, may be a sign of diabetes.

If the ingrown is very sore or the wound spreads, your doctor (surgeon) can take steps to relieve the feeling and prevent complications.
