Gouty Arthritis and High Uric Acid

Gouty Arthritis and High Uric Acid

Gout is a common disease. Symptoms of gout are severe swelling and pain in the joints of the toes, hands and knees. Gout is very painful.

To find out if gouty arthritis is the disease, we need to check Uric Acid for a blood test. When it is high, gout is the cause of your arthritis. The treatment of gout is different from ordinary arthritis.

Gout is caused by 2 things: (1) Race - Inherited by parents, (2) Food - Likes to eat foods high in uric acid.

What foods should a person with gout avoid?
With vegetables, avoid eating asparagus, cauliflower, mushrooms and spinach. It is high in uric acid. Rice is OK, but oatmeal and whole grain cereals should be reduced.

When it comes to the dish, this is where we lose. Avoid internal organs (intestines, liver, brain, heart and kidneys), sisig, beans, sardines, tunsoy, tamban, anchovies, anchovies, mussels and all kinds of nuts. Gravy, fish sauce, and lechon liver sauce are also high in uric acid. And for alcoholics, avoid drinking beer and alcohol if you do not want to get gout.

What can be eaten? All vegetables are fine except for the ones I mentioned. Milk, cheese and occasionally meat are also allowed. Coffee, tea, gelatin and all fruits are not forbidden in gout.

What are the remedies for gout?
Once you have gout, diet alone is not enough. Maintenance medication is needed to lower your uric acid levels in the blood. We prescribe Allopurinol 100 mg or 300 mg tablets daily depending on the level of your uric acid. Take it daily to prevent gout. I need it.

At the time of gout, we give Colchicine tablets, 4 times a day.

Just an important tip:
Allopurinol tablets are not allowed while gout attacks are severe. Only take maintenance Allopurinol when the pain subsides after 2 days.

This is how doctors treat gout. Have a check-up with your doctor.
