Bitten by DOG and CAT: What to Do

Bitten by DOG and CAT: What to Do

It is dangerous because it can cause rabies.

Rabies is transmitted through the saliva of dogs, cats, rats and bats infected with rabies. If a rabies patient is infected, it will take another 3 to 8 weeks for symptoms to develop. Symptoms of rabies include numbness at the wound site, loss of saliva, salivation and stiffness. Note: Once you have symptoms of rabies it is difficult to treat it. Because of this, we need to anticipate all dog and cat bites. First-Aid To Dog And Cat Bites: 1. Wash the wound with soap and water for 10 minutes. 2. Apply povidone iodine to the wound. Do not apply ointment or cover the wound tightly. We want the saliva of an animal that may be carrying rabies to come out. 3. Note: Do not apply garlic, vinegar, fish sauce or soy sauce to the wound. It does not cure and may even cause tetanus. 4. Take the patient to the hospital or Animal Bite Center immediately. 5. Catch the dog and observe it for 10 days. When a dog shows signs of rabies (salivating and disappearing), take it to a designated hospital (such as RITM) for an animal brain test. When to Give Vaccine: 1. If you have just been spit on by an animal and there is no skin lesion, it is safe and does not need to be vaccinated. 2. But when an animal is bitten and injured, rabies vaccine is needed. Observe the dog for 10 days. When nothing happens to the animal, it means it has no rabies and the patient is safe. 3. If the dog bites deeply, or bites the face or neck, the patient should be vaccinated and treated immediately. Take immediately to the aforementioned hospitals. Tips To Prevent Rabies: 1. To avoid disaster and hurt other people, get your pets vaccinated. 2. Do not let the dog slip and tie it. 3. Report the respectful dog to the authorities. 4. When walking on the road, bring an umbrella so you can have a dog repellent. 5. Do not let the child play with your non-pet. 6. Do not disturb animals while they are eating, sleeping or caring for their offspring. 7. If you have a wound on your body, do not let the dog lick your wound and you may become infected with the rabies virus. 8. In animal care, you can get vaccinated against rabies. Consult your doctor.
