Hair: Why Thin and Fall
The parts of the hair are as follows:
1. The hair follicle nourishes the hair and here the hair grows.
2. The hair shaft or hair itself is made from a hard protein called "keratin".
3. The hair root is the one that lengthens the hair by about half an inch per month.
Hair has a process of growth or growth cycle. The first stage is active growth that takes years. The resting phase is from
3 to 6 months where the follicle is relaxed just holding on to the hair shaft or hair, here the hair falls out quickly. Then the hair returns to the growing phase. But it does happen at the same time, depending on the age of the hair.
On the scalp or scalp the hairs fall out more easily. Elsewhere such as the eyebrows and armpits the hair is longer.
Did you know that 100,000 to 150,000 hairs are on the scalp. 10 - 20% of it is in the resting phase and can fall out, so 50-100 hairs can fall out every day. This is normal.
Hair Thinning:
One reason hair loss is the change in hormones. The receding hairline can be gradual or rapid. There is also a male pattern of thinning hair due to race or heredity so look at relatives.
There is also a female pattern of thinning hair where the hair is just thinning but not shrinking. Due to the fluctuations of hormones so hair falls out 3 months after birth. Other causes include menopause, discontinuation of birth control pills for 1-3 months, age, stresses such as death, accidents, problems, fatigue and diseases such as thyroid.
Other causes are malnutrition, lack of protein, constant hunger or dieting.
To find out if the hairfall is not normal, take a magnifying glass and look at the hair. If the hair shaft breakage is broken, the reason can be done such as being gentle or careful with the hair, reducing excessive brushing, shampooing or tying. Do not massage the scalp as it may break the hair. There are no chemicals like hair dyes, bleaching, curling or stretching. Can use protein conditioners and cream rinse.
Protect hair roots by avoiding braid and tight ponytail. Also avoid hot rollers.
Baldness is caused by skin diseases or fungal infections such as Ringworm. Ringworm is a fungal infection, hair loss, redness, peeling, and itching. It is most common in children, from pets, cats or playmates. Go to a dermatologist for an anti-fungal cream such as ketoconazole.
There is also Trichotillomania (hair pulling disorder) which has become a habit of always pulling or pulling hair or spinning by children.
