Stroke In Adolescents, What is This?
There is a so-called "Stroke in the young" in which young people aged 40 and under can have a stroke.
In the country, stroke is the second leading cause of death. About 110 Filipinos die every day due to stroke.
Let's find out the possible causes:
1. Unhealthy lifestyle - Because many young people have vices such as unhealthy food, cigarettes and alcohol, they have had an earlier stroke. Even at the age of 20, you can get high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease. This causes the stroke.
2. Rheumatic heart disease - Rheumatic heart disease is a disease in which the heart valves of the heart are damaged. The most common cause is simple tonsillitis, or infection of the tonsils. Bacteria from the tonsils can move to the heart valve and destroy it. To treat tonsillitis, the doctor prescribes antibiotics such as Amoxycillin capsules for 7-10 days.
3. Congenital heart disease - Children with heart problems (ASD, VSD and Patent Foramen Ovale) are also more likely to have a stroke. The blood vessels pass through the heart hole and this causes the stroke.
4. Illegal drugs such as shabu and cocaine - Do not use drugs. Shabu is a major cause of stroke in adolescents. Shabu raises blood pressure and heart rate. The arteries in the heart and brain also suddenly narrow (spasm).
5. Excessive exercise - When you exercise too much, your pressure will definitely increase and your heart rate will increase. Sometimes the "pressure" of the nerves in the brain is unbearable and it explodes.
6. Pregnancy and high blood pressure - Some pregnant women have high blood pressure as the baby grows in the womb.
7. Blood problems - There are diseases that thicken the patient's blood, and cause a stroke. Examples are protein S and protein C deficiency, and polycythemia vera.
8. Hot spot - When the weather is hot, many people have a stroke. Avoid the sun from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
There are other causes of stroke in adolescents such as
(1) abnormal heartbeat (atrial fibrillation),
(2) abnormal brain vein (cerebral aneurysm),
(3) severe migraine, and
(4) oral contraceptive pills.
