Check-up that Mom and Women should do

1. What are the check-ups that Mom should do? What's this for? Answer: If Mom is 40 years old or older, you need a check-up. If you are under 40, but you have a history of heart disease, diabetes or cancer, you should also check up early.
a. Take a blood test every year - Complete blood count (to determine blood volume), creatinine (for kidneys), uric acid (for arthritis), cholesterol (for heart), fasting blood sugar (for diabetes), and SGPT (for liver).
b. Urinalysis - To diagnose a urinary tract infection or kidney disease.
c. Chest X-ray - To see the lungs and heart.
d. Know BP - Normal blood pressure does not rise to 120 over 80.
e. Breastfeeding - According to the American Cancer Society, all women need to have their breasts examined at age 20 and older. When you are 35, have a mammogram or breast ultrasound every 2 years.
f. Have an OB and Pap’s smear - For those who are married or having sex, you need to have a Pap’s smear test and have a pelvic exam in your OB-gyne. The doctor monitors uterine cancer and vaginal infections. Usually every 3 years.
2. What often makes Moms sick? How can this be avoided?
Answer: a. Most often develop high blood pressure, diabetes or heart disease from the age of 40 or 50.
b. Watch for breast and uterine cancer, from age 40 onwards.
c. Take Calcium tablets - After menopause (ages 50), women need to take calcium tablets. Osteoporosis (fragile bone) is the most common disease in women. Calcium is a bone booster. So while still young, it is also good to drink milk, such as skim milk, to strengthen the bones.
d. Do not overweight - According to a study, 40% of women are overweight. Reduce what you eat and exercise. 3. Give an example of healthy meals for Mom.
Answer: a. Breakfast - bread, low fat milk (calcium), and egg (protein)
b. Lunch - sardines (calcium and vitamin D), 1 cup carrots (against breast cancer), 1 cup avocado (for complexion) and 1 cup rice
c. Dinner - chicken porridge with vegetables (protein), 1 cup sweet potato or spinach (low calorie and high fiber), 1 slice watermelon and 1 cup rice
d. Snacks - banana, apple or yogurt.
e. Enough water.
